Garvin Design Group and Hood Construction joined the University of South Carolina for a special grand opening of the Golden Spur restaurant on August 15.

A reincarnation of an old campus favorite sports pub of the same name, the new Golden Spur occupies a ground-floor space within the recently completed Campus Village development.  Key features of the new Golden Spur include:

  • Acoustical ceiling clouds in geometric shapes suspended from exposed black ceiling structure
  • Bar back tile with an etched pattern reminiscent of chicken wire, a subtle nod to the Gamecock mascot
  • An interior color palette that celebrates Gamecock colors and incorporates golden accents
  • Digital wall displays that celebrate Gamecock Athletics

“It’s been so much fun learning about the old Golden Spur pub and bringing it back to life for a new generation of USC students,” said Kim Moon, Garvin Design Group Interior Designer. “The Gamecock motif provides so many opportunities for creative reimagining and it was an exciting design challenge to make the new Golden Spur reflective of today’s USC.”

The Golden Spur project began design in early 2024 and construction was completed in just two months. The new restaurant is open just in time for the fall 2024 semester.

“It’s been an honor to bring back the Golden Spur to USC’s campus,” said Amanda Harter, Hood Construction Project Manager. “I think it has a great new home, and we look forward to seeing how the incoming students enjoy it.”
