Columbia architecture, interiors, and planning firm Garvin Design Group recently welcomed Clemson graduate Jerome Simiyon to the firm as a full-time hire. Hailing from Trichy, India, Jerome holds a professional architect license in his home country. He graduated in 2020 from Sathyabama Institute of Science and Technology in Chennai, India where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in Architecture. Simiyon was involved in several clubs as an undergraduate student, including the Design Club and NASA (National Association of Students of Architecture).
Simiyon’s interest in sports venue design helped him discover the many architectural opportunities in the United States, inspiring his relocation. He continued his academic journey at Clemson University and received his Master’s degree in Architecture in 2023. As a graduate student, Simiyon spent a year in Charleston participating in Clemson’s Community Build Program, where he was involved in community-oriented design-build and service-learning projects. Simiyon’s Community Build team designed and built a pavilion for Frierson Elementary School on Wadmalaw Island.
Simiyon is the 2023 winner of Clemson’s prestigious Harlan E. McClure Award for Architecture. He previously interned with Bello-Garris Architects in Charleston. As he joins Garvin Design Group, Simiyon looks forward to immersing himself in all project phases while furthering his design and project development skills.
“Jerome is an immensely talented designer and we are thrilled to have him on our team,” said Scott Garvin, Garvin Design Group President. “We are grateful he chose to join our firm after graduation and glad to be part of his professional career.”
