Williams-Brice Stadium Video Board
Williams-Brice Stadium video board
University of South Carolina
Design for the University of South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium Video Board had three major goals: create a structure to support the new video board, then the third largest in the SEC; clad the structure in such a way that it blended in and complemented the stadium; and create an identity for that end of the stadium which displayed and enhanced the University brand. The steel super-structure was designed to span over the existing office building at the north end of the stadium, on which the previous video board was secured. Constructing in three different colors of aluminum composite paneling and slight shifts in plane break down the structure’s large scale. Its large expanse on the north end of the building created an opportunity to show off the University brand with back-lit signage. Finally, an aluminum curtain wall window system with frosted glass accents each corner of the structure. Internal LED lights add an extra element of drama to night games.
“The video board structure had an extremely compressed schedule and they were able to produce a quality product despite the tight time frame – it continues to be a source of great pride for Gamecock nation. Even an hour ago, I saw fans getting out of their car at the stadium to photograph that structure.”
