HONORS COLLEGE

University of South Carolina

Columbia, SC

The USC Honors College Residence Hall houses 537 students and three faculty apartments in four six-story “houses.”  This site was selected for its unique proximity to the University’s beloved Horseshoe, Russell House University Union, and Thomas Cooper Library. It provides residents tremendous views of the South Carolina State House, east across campus, and south to Williams-Brice Stadium and expanded playing fields.  The buildings’ solar orientation allows for south-facing green space, a wonderful outdoor space for use by both the Honors College and the campus community.   Designed as a true Living-Learning facility, the building contains four large technologically advanced classrooms that can also be opened up to allow for special functions.  Faculty and student offices complete the academic portion of the building’s program.  The Honors College Residence Hall is designed with respect for the timeless and enduring qualities found in USC’s best buildings.  In keeping with the University’s commitment to sustainable design, this project achieved LEED Gold Certification.
