Addition of a new teller pavilion at Anderson Brothers Bank’s branch in downtown Conway demonstrates the company’s continued commitment to its clientele. In 2015, Garvin Design Group helped Anderson Brothers Bank adapt its 1930s gas station building at the corner of Main Street and 5th Avenue for new use as a bank. Five years later the branch had outgrown its space. Limited on-site parking posed a challenge to efficient and effective service. Garvin Design Group helped the bank reimagine the site plan to enhance its client experience.

Construction of a new pavilion improves site circulation and adds three new teller stations. This eliminates the need for additional surface parking and decreased the impact of bank traffic on adjacent streets. Strategic site planning protects existing 200-year-old oak trees and their root structures. Garvin Design Group worked with the City of Conway’s arborist to increase the root bed around the primary oak tree. These trees provide selective screening for the new teller pavilion, minimizing its visibility from Main Street. Landscaping engages the sidewalks along Main Street and 5th Avenue, enriching the pedestrian experience around the site.

The pavilion’s architecture honors its Conway context. It uses the same Lowcountry vernacular style that characterizes the existing bank building: trellis work, timber beams, brick columns, board and batten siding, and standing seam metal gable roof are all reflected in the new pavilion. While the pavilion’s architecture is traditional, its technology is state-of-the-art. Teller staff stay in place inside the existing bank building and serve clients through two-way video. Bank customers enjoy a cutting-edge digital teller experience in a nostalgic and familiar environment.

This project makes creative use of the building’s siting, existing landscaping, and context to enhance client operations and honor the wider needs of the community.
