Expansion & Renovation

Hope Lutheran Church

Irmo, SC

The Hope Lutheran Church expansion and renovation project adds 2,300 sf to the existing worship space, expands the narthex, and updates existing offices, fellowship hall, nursery, and restrooms. Inspired by the growing membership and diversity of the 51-year-old congregation, the expansion reflects the Hope Lutheran Church’s outreach-focused mission.

Expansion of the worship space pushes its primary elevation further south, adding ample chancel space and room for 120 additional moveable seats. New carpet tile, ceiling paint, and light fixtures create continuity between the existing worship space and the new addition. The gable of the sanctuary’s new south elevation contains a new aluminum storefront window system, bringing additional daylight inside and backlighting a new (wall-mounted) suspended back-lit wooden cross. Stained wood veneer panels, textile wall coverings, and wood steps in contrasting dark tones create contrast between the new platform and the wider worship space. Walls on either side of the platform provide space for wall-mounted projection screens and seasonal banners.

Expansion of the Narthex includes a new coffee bar. New carpet improves overall acoustics in the social hub of the church. Updated and durable luxury vinyl tile (LVT) flooring in a warm wood tone improves existing classrooms. Added amenity spaces include a new family restroom adjacent to the nursery and an expanded women’s restroom off the narthex. Warm-toned, wood-patterned LVT and quartz countertops lend the restrooms residential warmth and commercial functionality.

This project is currently under construction.
