The growing congregation of St. John’s Episcopal Church hired Garvin Design Group to study the possible expansion opportunities for their existing facility. The church is based on the cruciform plan. The new plan builds out the transepts and altar to make room for the new program driven by adding more seating and reconfiguring the altar for new liturgical practices. The context of the stone church and adjoining Heyward Hall drove the aesthetic of the new rear façade.
